Responding to fires

Disaster Action Team members from the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter are on the scene of a large apartment fire at Bucks Landing Apartments (120 Street Road, Warminster, PA).  The first team of disaster responders assisted 32 clients earlier in the day.  A second team is arriving at the location to assist more clients.  Red Cross Disaster Action Team members met with the affected residents to ensure that all disaster caused emergency needs were met.  Caseworkers will continue to follow up with clients to assist with the recovery efforts and to provide additional assistance and referrals based on recovery plans.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the Lower Bucks community.  Be safe during the summer months by preparing for home fires and other disasters.  The Lower Bucks County Chapter of the American Red Cross has seen a marked increase in fire responses this year.  Information regarding home emergency plans is located on the Chapter’s website www.RedCrossLBCC.org  Preparedness information for individuals and groups can also be obtained by calling 215-946-4870 ext 105.

About the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter: The American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disaster;  provides blood for area hospitals; teaches lifesaving skills; supports military members and their families; and operates the County’s only emergency homeless shelter.  The American Red Cross is a charity, not a government agency, and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.  Donations to support these vital services can be mailed to American Red Cross-Lower Bucks County Chapter at 1909 Veterans Highway, Levittown, Pa  19056 or by calling Jane E. Ward, Director of Development at 215-946-4870 ext 101 or via our Web Site www.redcrosslbcc.org.

Help people affected by disasters, by donating to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.  On those rare occasions when donations exceed Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters.  Your gift enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling, and other assistance to victims of all disasters.  Call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish).  Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P. O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.  Internet users can make a secure online contribution by visiting www.redcross.org.

On Sunday April 30th, 2011 we held our Change a Life, Walk for the Red event at Tyler State Park in Newtown, PA. Take a look at this slideshow to see how it went - lots of people, a gorgeous day, cool t-shirts, awesome goody bags filled with handy stuff, and even some four-legged doggy participants! What fun ... and for a great cause.

Thanks again to all who came out, walked, helped, donated, and did their share to make this event a success.
